Fillers

It’s a popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment used in dermatology to restore volume and fullness to the face, reduce wrinkles and lines, and enhance facial contours. They are primarily composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps maintain skin hydration and elasticity.

Here’s how the dermal filler treatment process typically works:

  1. Consultation: Before undergoing any cosmetic procedure, you will have a consultation with a doctor. During this consultation, you’ll discuss your goals, medical history, and any concerns you may have. The doctor will assess your facial features and skin condition to determine the most appropriate filler treatment for you.

  2. Preparing for the procedure: There is usually little preparation required for dermal filler treatments. However, it’s essential to avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements a few days before the procedure to minimize the risk of bruising.

  3. The treatment: On the day of the procedure, the doctor will cleanse your face and may apply a topical numbing cream to minimize any discomfort. Some fillers also contain a local anesthetic to reduce pain during injection. The doctor will then carefully inject the filler into specific areas of your face using a fine needle or cannula.

  4. Targeted areas: Dermal fillers can be used to address various concerns, including:

    • Smoothing out wrinkles and lines, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
    • Enhancing lips by adding volume and definition.
    • Restoring volume to cheeks and temples to address age-related volume loss.
    • Filling in under-eye hollows and reducing the appearance of dark circles.
    • Improving the appearance of acne scars or other facial depressions.
  5. Aftercare: Once the procedure is complete, you may experience some mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, but these usually resolve quickly. Your doctor will provide you with specific aftercare instructions, which may include avoiding strenuous exercise and certain skincare products for a few days.

  6. Results and duration: The results of dermal fillers are immediate, and you’ll notice an improvement in the treated areas right after the procedure. However, keep in mind that there may be some initial swelling that could mask the final results. The duration of the results varies depending on the type of filler used and individual factors but typically lasts from six months to two years. Over time, the filler will gradually break down and be absorbed by the body.
