Fat grafting
It is a popular cosmetic and reconstructive surgery technique used to enhance or restore volume in various body regions. The procedure can be performed for both aesthetic and medical purposes.
The fat grafting process typically involves the following steps:
Harvesting: The surgeon uses liposuction to remove fat from donor sites on the patient’s body, such as the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks. Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that involves making small incisions and using a cannula (thin tube) to suction out excess fat.
Purification: The harvested fat is then processed to remove any impurities, excess fluids, and damaged cells. This step is essential to ensure that only healthy fat cells are used for transplantation.
Injection: The purified fat is carefully injected into the target area where additional volume or contouring is desired. Common areas for fat grafting include the face (cheeks, lips, under-eye hollows), breasts, buttocks (Brazilian butt lift), hands, and scars from previous surgeries.
Recovery: After the procedure, patients may experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort at both the donor and recipient sites. Recovery time can vary depending on the extent of the procedure and the patient’s individual healing process.
